1. Bend Whitewater Park
I had an amazing time at Bend Whitewater Park! It’s a unique spot where the Deschutes River is split into three channels, each offering a different experience.
I loved watching skilled kayakers and surfers tackle the waves in the Whitewater Channel.
For a more relaxed adventure, I floated down the Fish Ladder. It was a perfect mix of gentle rapids and calm spots. I saw families with kids enjoying this section too.
If you’re not up for the rapids, you can walk around and rejoin the river at McKay Park.
The park’s design is impressive. It replaced an old dam, making the river safer for recreation and better for fish migration.
I appreciated how they included a protected Habitat Channel for local wildlife. It’s a great example of balancing fun and conservation.
Remember to bring a life jacket and proper footwear. I rented equipment nearby, which was super convenient.
The park can get busy on warm days, but there’s plenty of space to spread out and enjoy the river.

I love spending time at Drake Park in downtown Bend. It’s a beautiful spot along the Deschutes River with nearly half a mile of riverfront access. The wide open lawns are perfect for picnics or just lounging in the sun.
One of my favorite things to do is walk the Deschutes River Trail through the park. They recently renovated part of it, adding a nice boardwalk with railings. It’s a great place for an easy stroll with scenic river views.

4. Shevlin Park
I love spending time at Shevlin Park in Bend. It’s a beautiful natural area with nearly 1,000 acres to explore. The park is perfect for hiking, biking, and picnicking along Tumalo Creek.
One of my favorite trails is the 6-mile Loop Trail. It winds through old-growth ponderosa pines and offers amazing views of the creek and skyline.
I also enjoy the 2.5-mile Tumalo Creek Trail, which is great for a leisurely walk by the water.
For mountain biking enthusiasts like me, there’s a dedicated bike trail that connects to the Forest Service Mrazek Trail. It’s a fun ride through the canyon.
The park also has picnic areas, including the Aspen Meadow shelter, which is ideal for a relaxing lunch break.
When I visit in winter, I sometimes see smoke from controlled burns. It’s part of the park’s forest management to keep the ecosystem healthy.

I had an amazing time exploring the High Desert Museum on my recent trip to Bend. This place is a hidden gem that brings the natural and cultural history of the region to life.

7. Sun Mountain Fun Center
I had a blast at Sun Mountain Fun Center during my recent trip to Bend! This place is packed with entertainment options for all ages. As soon as I walked in, I was amazed by the variety of activities available.
The arcade games caught my eye first. I spent hours trying to beat my own high scores on classic and modern games.
The laser tag arena was a huge hit too – I teamed up with some new friends for an epic battle.
Outside, I challenged myself on the mini-golf course. The well-designed holes provided just the right amount of challenge.
I also took a few spins around the go-kart track, which was incredibly thrilling.
After working up an appetite, I grabbed a burger from their food court. It was surprisingly tasty and hit the spot after all that fun.
Sun Mountain is definitely a must-visit spot in Bend for some laid-back entertainment.

8. Deschutes River Trail
I recently explored the Deschutes River Trail and was blown away by its beauty. This 12-mile trail follows the river through the heart of Bend, offering a quick escape from the city’s hustle and bustle.
As I hiked along, I was mesmerized by the rushing water cascading over rocks and logs. The trail winds through a stunning canyon, surrounded by pine, juniper, and ponderosa forests.
I loved the mix of urban and natural settings.
The trail is divided into several sections, each with its own unique features. I found some parts to be easy walks, while others were more challenging with narrow, rocky paths.
Biking is allowed on certain sections, but be sure to check the rules before bringing your bike.
I spotted plenty of wildlife during my visit. Remember to stay on the trail to protect the sensitive habitat along the riverbank. Also, keep your dog leashed unless you’re in a designated off-leash area.

I had an amazing time with Adventure Tours Bend on my recent trip to Oregon. They offer a variety of outdoor activities that showcase the natural beauty of the area.
I tried their electric bike tour and was blown away by how much ground we covered effortlessly.

10. Farewell Bend Park
I recently visited Farewell Bend Park, and it’s become one of my favorite spots in Bend. The park sits right along the Deschutes River, offering stunning views and a peaceful atmosphere.
The Deschutes River Trail runs through the park, making it perfect for a leisurely stroll or bike ride. I loved watching kayakers and paddleboarders glide by on the water.
There’s even a small beach area where you can dip your toes in the river.
Kids will have a blast at the lumber mill-themed playground. I saw families enjoying picnics in the large shelter, which can fit up to 36 people.
The park also has a unique bouldering area for climbing enthusiasts.
One of my favorite features is the boardwalk along the river. I spotted several birds and even a deer while walking there.
If you’re into fishing, this park is a great spot to cast a line and try your luck.

Bend hosts exciting outdoor events year-round. I love attending the Bend Outdoor Worx BOW Fest, which showcases new outdoor gear and tech. It’s a great place to meet like-minded people and learn about the latest innovations.
The Bend Bike Fest is another favorite of mine. It features group rides, bike demos, and skills clinics. I always pick up new tips to improve my mountain biking.
In winter, I never miss the WinterFest. It has ice sculpting, a rail jam for snowboarders and skiers, and live music. The festival really brings the community together to celebrate the snowy season.
